Change Contact Sorting on the iPhone 5
This is also a feature that you can use to switch back and forth between different sorting options. So if you generally like to sort by last name but can’t find a particular contact, you can switch to first name sorting to find it, then switch back to your preferred last name sorting when you are done. Step 1: Tap the Settings icon. Step 2: Select the Mail, Contacts, Calendars option. Step 3: Scroll down to the Contacts section, then touch the Sort Order button. Step 4: Select the First, Last option. You can then press the Home button at the bottom of your phone to exit the menu. It is worth noting that you can have different sort orders and display orders. So if you want to have your contacts sorted alphabetically by first name, but displayed as “Last, First,” then you are free to do so.
